Cambodia - Three days in Ankor

Having been dropped near the centre of Siem Reap by our tuk tuk driver Sky, we were met by our Air B n B host Ankor Adventures who took us to our apartment, located on the outskirts of Siem Reap (just a $2 tuk tuk ride away from town). We settled in with a cuppa, got the washing on (the simple things in life!) and went for a walk to find the local Bakery - our go to for breakfast and lunch everyday whilst we stayed here.

Angkor here we come...

By the time we were back at the apartment we were soon joined by our good friend Julia, who we had overlapped with in Sydney and would do so again in Japan in April.

We caught up on our recent travels over a beer, introduced Julia to the Cambodian delights of Fish Amok and $0.50 beer on Pub Street in the centre of town, and plotted out our adventures in Siem Reap.

The travelling trio

Siem Reap is the closest town to the ancient temples of the Ankor area, and the best place to plan and arrange travel around the temples. With bicycles, e-bikes, tuk tuks and private taxis available, there were plenty of options for touring around. Given the temperatures had reached a sticky 37-38 degrees, we decided that we probably would have melted on a pedal bike (although probably the most fun way to explore) so we opted for tuk tuk instead.

Ready to explore

We had three full days to explore the area and take in the sights, and we planned to spend each day discovering a different area. With two popular routes (long route and short route) around the central temple areas, these formed the structure for our first two days. Our final day was to reach further afield in the morning and then cover any ground we had missed out along the way...

Day 1 - our first sight of Angkor

Day 2 - Tomb Raider style adventures
Day 3 - exploring the outer reaches
