Indonesia - Gili Air to Lombok Airport

First off, thank you to Lisa from chasethehorizon.com for their useful blog on this. This is really an update to their own blog article to reiterate the current way to get from Gili Air (or another one of the Gili islands or Senggigi) to Lombok International Airport. It is easily done in a day, or half a day if you push it. Our flight wasn't until 7pm so we stopped at Senggigi half way.

Our end goal... the airport

Gili Air to Bangsal (Lombok)

There are several options. You can book the shuttle boat and bus combo (from 80,000 IDR pp), the shuttle boat (which leaves at 8.30am) or catch the public boat and then a taxi. We got chatting to one of the bar owners on Gili Air and shared a ride with him.

The best time to get the public boat is in the morning, as it only leaves when full (30 passengers). This can take anything from 5 minutes to 30+ minutes. 8am - 10am will probably do the job.

The public boat from Gili Air to Lombok
The boat costs 12,000 IDR pp and tickets can be bought direct at the harbour and you get onto the boat from the jetty when they call 'public boat'.

Bangsal to Senggigi

Wear flip flops or shoes you are happy to get wet as the boat just stops on the beach and you will get wet. Ignore all the touts and people asking to take your bag - keep your bags with you!

Bangsal
Walk the 500m or so past the barrier to the port to pick up a Blue Bird Taxi. Ask for the charges to go on the meter. If there are other travellers on the boat it is likely they will be heading south so you could car share. You could just catch a taxi direct to the airport.

Senggigi
In Senggigi there isn't much to write home about, and feels, to us, a little run down. We got a cheap and okay eat at Oz Hostel and they also had wifi. If you go to the far left of the beach and sit near the resort you can pick up the resort's free wifi.

Senggigi to Lombok international Airport

There is an airport shuttle bus run by Dansi which picks up from the main road, near the art market - there is a small metal booth which sells tickets and there is normally one or two buses parked up. It goes every hour on the hour and costs 35,000 IDR pp. The bus is good, with AC and luggage storage on the bus, so you can keep an eye on your bags. The bus stops at Mataram for a little while (there is a toilet here if you need it) and carries onto the airport taking about 2 hours in total.

Alternatively, you could take a taxi (Blue Bird) or car (about 150,000 IDR pp) which are freely available in Senggigi.

Hope these little tips help.

Happy travels...
