Australia - A Day in the Hunter Valley

The hunter valley is about 2 hours north of Sydney and is one of the principle wine areas in the world focusing on Chardonnay and Shiraz so was a must do.

Andy had been able to get a car from a friend so off we went on our little road trip to taste some wine!
Road trip!
Kat and Andy (and Buddy!) are regulars to the vineyards so had their favourites which did not disappoint, and we chucked a few news ones in for good measure!

Capercaille
This was Kat and Andy's favourite in the area and the service was great and even allowed us to taste a few which were not on the normal list! Wine tasting was free and with a smile.

Cheers!
Allansdale
Quick stop. Nice wines but not worth going out of your way. Staff were a little off and the cellar door wasn't the best experience. Free tastings.

Wine wine everywhere
Gartlemans
Stopped for food at The Deck, but a group just turned up so there was too much of a queue. Really nice wines and looked after Buddy as well. Goodish service and worth going to. Free tastings.

Hello!
St Clements
Stopped for lunch as there is a great view and super pizzas. Wine tasting fee was $5 per person so didn't taste any (cheap skates I know!)

Pizza... with a view
A great day out
Emma's Cottage
Started running out of time so after a few false starts... a few vineyards had closed on our map... we came across Emma's Cottage.

Some roses among the vines
Nice little place with nice wines and fortified wines. Onsite art gallery, accommodation with pool available and various events in the summer. Host got a bit strange when Kat wanted to sign up to the free club but not give them bank details. Julia said it had the best white wines here too. Wine tasting free.

Calais
Great wines and probably the best port from the day. Allowed Buddy to join us at the tasting bar and even gave him a treat. Good service. Recommended!

More wine please!
We ran put of time as most called doors close by 5 so drove around looking for roos (and there were a lot of them) and for the view at Audrey Wilkinson which was lovely.

The Hunter Valley
Overall a great day out. Wines are between $25 and $40 generally and most wineries provide free tastings. Huge thanks for Andy for driving and resisting the temptation to have a few drinks!

Kat and Andy's happy place... the Hunter Valley!
